Nsure Energy has acquired about 300 acres of land for establishing a full-fledged battery manufacturing facility at Malur, in the district of Kolar in the southern state of Karnataka.

Initially, it acquired about 80 acres of industrial land in Phase 1. This was followed by two phases of acquiring 46 acres and 150 acres through the government-owned KIADB (Karnataka Industrial Areas Development Board). Finally, it acquired a number of smaller parcels of land, all adding up to 300 acres.

As is to be expected, land values in Malur have increased sharply. As of 2026, the average market value of the land is upwards of Rs 2.75 crores per acre.

The initial phase envisaged a capacity of 2.5 GWh p.a. of LFP Pouch cells with a provision to expand the Gigafactory at the same site to 5 GWh p.a., to be followed by further increasing the capacity to 22.5 GWh p.a.

The manufacturing site is well-connected to the upcoming EV hub of India. The site is located 50 kilometres from Bangalore city, 25 kilometres from Hosur and just 10 kilometres from the new Chennai-Bangalore Expressway.

Research, Development and Engineering centre

Nsure Energy is in the process of establishing an integrated Research Development and Engineering facility for Advance Chemistry Cells (ACC) at a separate plot of 5.5 acres within 500 metres of the main Gigafactory.

The facility will be co-located with a Pilot Cell [ACC] manufacturing unit with a capacity of 0.2GWhr and will also incorporate an Applications Engineering Laboratory [AEL]. The AEL will seek to help understand various end user requirements, design our products to customer requirements and to meet the demands of operations in arduous Indian climatic conditions.

Nsure Energy’s R&D Facilities will have state-of-the-art equipment with humidity and temperature-controlled rooms for-

  • Material characterization and testing
  • Electrode fabrication
  • Cell assembly in multiple formats and form factors
  • Development of next generation chemistries

On Nov 2021, Nsure Energy and International Advanced Research Centre for Powder Metallurgy and New Materials (ARCI) signed an agreement for Technical Know-How Transfer and Training to support indigenisation efforts in this regard.

Centre for Automotive Energy Materials - International Advanced Research Centre for Powder Metallurgy and New Materials (ARCI), is an Autonomous R&D Centre of Department of Science and Technology (DST), Govt. of India, located in IIT-M Research Park, Chennai. ARCI under the Technical Research Centre on Alternative Energy Materials and Systems has developed expertise in establishing Lithium-ion battery process know-how.
